We’re Listening! Your Feedback = Freshening Up The Box. by Adam

We are happy to announce that we have rolled out an update to SuggestionBox.com that includes easier ways to make suggestions, keep track of your stats and get credit for inviting your friends & family.

Make A Suggestion On The Fly!
You can now submit a suggestion without creating an account. If you provide your email address, we will notify you when the company responds to your suggestion. Any suggestions you make with your email address can later be claimed when you create an account using that same email, and all of your suggestions will then be accessible via your Suggestions Dashboard.

Creating an account allows you to vote, follow your favorite suggestions, comment, and read private messages. In addition, all your suggestions are centrally located and searchable in your Suggestions dashboard. Think of it as your Suggestion Headquarters.

Suggestions Dashboard Improvements

On your Suggestions dashboard, you will now find the total number of friends who you have invited and signed up. In addition, we have fixed a small issue with the suggestion counts that are displayed on your dashboard and throughout the site. The total number of suggestions in each category are now consistent and accurate.

Stay tuned as we continue to roll out new features. Let us know what you want the most by submitting your ideas.

Promote Your Customers’ Suggestions with RSS Widgets by Adam

We have been getting a lot of customers asking how they can post and promote their suggestions on their website. Each SuggestionBox has its own unique RSS feed that displays the most recently updated public suggestions. You can view the feed for SuggestionBox here. Here are a few very simple widget platforms that let you integrate your suggestions into your site. They all allow you to customize the look and feel and dynamically update.

SpringWidgets
Use their express widget to create a simple RSS feed widget. It is free to sign up, and you can add a header image and customize the colors.

Grazr

Another free service that allows you to create a reading list with multiple feeds. Use their simple interface to build your custom widget. You have to create an account, but it is free.

Grazr

YourMinis
Last but not least, is YourMinis. Personally I like this widget the best because it is super simple and you have the most flexibility over the colors and formatting. The service is free and you don’t even need to sign up!

Pick a widget that you think integrates well with your site. When a visitor clicks on one of the suggestions they will be taken to your SuggestionBox page. From there they can comment, vote and submit their own suggestions.

What other ways would you like to be able to promote your suggestions? Submit your suggestions here.

Embrace The Box by BJ

So it’s been almost one month and a half since we launched SuggestionBox.com. Everyday we’re working to develop this into THE online destination for people to make suggestions to any company worldwide. Big goals? That’s why we also practice what we preach. We’ve been listening to our Suggester community and current customers to see what will make this the best tool that can connect both audiences to each other. At the end of the day, Suggesters and SuggestionBox owners should connect to work together to improve.

I wanted to take the time to highlight some of the things we’ve actually implemented while managing our own SuggestionBox page and show you how you build reputation stats within the community. The following image shows the SuggestionBox page stats:
SuggestionBox Page Statistics
If you look at the above image you can see that we’ve implemented 20 out of 56 and are working on the next 16 as we speak. Below are some of the suggestions that have already been implemented to give you some sense of what types of suggestions people are submitting:

Within each suggestion you’ll see that when you respond as a company your replies are marked by the blue fill to highlight an official response.

So managing the SuggestionBox is one piece of the new relationship with Suggesters. I’m also a Suggester and pretty sure I’m leading the way with 78 suggestions. Here are my official SuggestionBox Dashboard Stats:
BJ Cook's SuggestionBox Reputation
If you look at my reputation in SuggestionBox you’ll notice that I have 40 Firsts.
What are Firsts? Firsts are given to you when you are the “First To Suggest” and create a new SuggestionBox for any company if they aren’t already in our database. I wonder if someone will surpass me?

With so many of us on both sides of trying to capture customer feedback and giving our suggestions to the companies we interact with each day, it’s important to show we’re both listening and voicing our ideas. Without this interaction, improvement becomes a guessing game for the business owner and something a Suggester can only hope for as they stumble into another experience. Embrace the box!

Chapter 1 by JeffWhitton

Hello, my name is Jeff Whitton, and I’m a suggestaholic.

I see simple things every day that can easily be improved. Something in line at the bank, or walking through the airport, or in a restaurant, or on a website, or at the mall during the Christmas rush, or driving around town, or at an event, or on vacation, or at work, or at the zoo with the family… I’m always trying to figure out a way to make things bigger, better, more efficient and more enjoyable.

I love improvement, progress, streamlining, simplicity and new gadgets that always seem to come out the month after I buy one. I usually have a suggestion to make even a fantastic experience just that much better. The problem is, I never give them.

I think I’ve only submitted 2 suggestions in my life. Once, after an outstanding event, I sent an email saying that my family loved it, and that we would certainly be back the following year. I was so excited after returning home, I wanted to help. I gave them a bulleted list of probably 10 things they could do to be more efficient and improve for the next time around. After I clicked “Send” from my personal email, I felt awkward… I didn’t want to be “That Guy” with the bulleted list of ideas. I felt especially awkward when I never heard back….

The second time I made a suggestion was after buying one of the aforementioned new gadgets. I was excited to learn all about it, and went to their website to explore. I clicked on a feedback form and told them that I loved the product, and suggested all sorts of features and functionality it should incorporate into future models. I clicked “Submit” and my suggestions vanished into who knows where… I did get a pop-up message saying essentially “Thank you for your submission, but we get so much feedback, we can’t possibly get back to you”. I thought, “This is one of the most technologically advanced companies on the planet. They can’t devise a system to electronically categorize all of the similiar suggestions and respond to people that are trying to help?” Mmmm, they’re really missing out on a opportunity.

So I’ve got all these ideas and nowhere to put them. It’s far too cumbersome to give feedback by email, or web form, or on a survey, or call an 800# on a receipt, or post on an online forum, or tell an employee, and it seems pointless when I never find out if anything happens. Why bother? I would sarcastically joke with friends when we’d come up with some crazy idea about how to make something better, “Put it in their Suggestion Box.” We’ve all seen suggestion boxes around, and I started to wonder: Who actually puts a suggestion, in a box? More interestingly, I wonder what happens when someone dumps out the suggestion box? Who writes on paper anymore? I thought, there needs to be a SuggestionBox DOT COM that is connected to the entire Internet. One place where you can find the Suggestion Box for everything that actually does something. Since it’s online, you can do all sorts of things like digitally track your ideas to see if anything ever becomes of them, and be anonymous if you want. I got out of bed, went to my computer, typed in: S U G G E S T I O N B O X . C O M and pressed “Enter”.
